If your wipers turn themselves on when it starts raining, you have a rain sensor mounted behind the windshield. The sensor reads how much water is hitting the glass and tells the wipers what speed to run. When the windshield is replaced, the sensor has to be carefully removed, the gel pad reseated, and the unit reattached to the new glass. What we do We use OEE or OEM quality glass that includes the correct mounting bracket for your rain or light sensor. The sensor itself is reused unless it’s damaged. We replace the gel pad that bonds it to the glass so the sensor reads correctly through the new windshield. After install, we test the system to confirm it’s working. Other sensors at the same mount Many rain sensors share a housing with the auto-dimming mirror, the light sensor that controls automatic headlights, and sometimes a forward camera for ADAS. We handle all of those during a single replacement. Call 502-709-8693 to schedule.
FAQ
Why does the rain sensor need a new gel pad?
The gel pad bonds the sensor to the glass and lets it read water on the outside surface. The old pad can’t be reused once removed.
What if the wipers don’t work right after the replacement?
Call us. The most common cause is a sensor that needs a few minutes to recalibrate, but if it persists we’ll check it.
Will insurance cover this?
Yes, in almost all cases. Comprehensive coverage pays for the correct glass and sensor reattachment.
